A mixture of classic designs with the comfort of contemporary materials is becoming a big trend in 2016 within the hospitality sector. Offering unique and tasteful furniture and decor with an emphasis on ensuring a relaxing and peaceful place has given the hospitality industry an even more luxurious feel.

1. Furniture is a big part of any hotel decor, especially when you first walk through the front door. It’s not only just 5* hotels that offer luxury now, a trend that we have been seeing more is furniture that is not only designed to look comfortable and luxurious but also feels it too. The focus has shifted away from funky shapes and artistic furniture that looks good (but sadly doesn’t feel luxurious) to more natural materials and large seating areas.

2. A trend that has not only taken over our homes, but has also had a major detox on the hospitality industry too, is warmer tones and colours. Whether it is furniture, decorations or even wallpaper, hotels have moved away from colourful and bright interiors to a more relaxing colour palette. Colours such as cream, white, beige and pastels are becoming commonplace within both hotel rooms and full hotel design. It sets a relaxing feel within the room, warm tones give off the impression of luxury and sophistication, whilst also working with your lighting idea.

3. Customised interiors was a big trend in 2015 and is set to continue in 2016. This trend sees designers using a blend of different materials and styles to tailor specifically for different industries. Bars and restaurants have started using this with their lighting, a big focus is always on the varied lighting fixtures and light bulbs for the food and drink industry. No longer a small, barely visible light bulb but instead large, custom design bulbs or fixtures hanging from the ceilings that capture the eye as soon as you walk in. What is great about these is, little emphasis has to be put on any other interiors or decorative statements as the light bulbs are the decoration. With this trend is the use of LED lighting, as it not only looks stylish but saves companies a lot of money in energy bills too. 4. An emphasis on environment and nature within interior design is a trend that has been around for a long time. That warm, cabin feel within hotel design is set to continue in 2016. The natural materials and raw style compliment the warmer tones of the walls and the retro light fixtures in hotel lobbies. Materials such as wood, metal, copper and marble can bring a style of art to tables, chairs, light fixtures and lamps that are all used within hotels.

5. Bathrooms in hotels have taken on a spa-like feel, no longer are they minimised in order to create larger rooms, now they have become just as luxurious and spacious as the room itself. Modern tourists expect more from hotels, they expect luxurious surprises and plenty of room. Showers are larger, bath tubs are wider and the lighting is a lot trendier. Some hotels still focus on just practicability, but in today’s world, luxury and comfort are the key trends.

Last Autumn 2015, we teamed up with Don't Cramp My Style's, Anna, a blogger who writes about interior design, in a question and answer interview where she discussed her favourite interior design trends.

Anna's recent blog post (check it out here) discusses the lighting trends of 2016.  In her first paragraph, she mentions LED Lighting is a lighting trend for this year, and we are super delighted that she has recommended our range of vintage-inspired LED filament light bulbs. Limericks were popularised in Edward's 1846 book 'The Books of Nonsense". A limerick follows the pattern on AA-BB-A.

As we will soon be making a transition from spring to summer, the weather may not always be consistent. However, something that has stayed consistent over the last couple of months is the trend in transparent, colourful and paper thin lighting and lighting fixtures. Summer is always about bright pastel shades and light materials no matter what the trend. And lighting has taken over these styles within restaurants and homes too.

LIGHTING WITH TRANSPARENCY – the clever new trend in transparent jar-like fixtures and fluid glass pendants that is tinted with a slight hue and comes in a variety of colours. Her Royal Highness, The Queen, is celebrating her 90th Birthday today and celebrations are taking place in the United Kingdom and across the globe to mark the occasion. She is the UK's longest reigning monarch.

The Queen, whose first name is Elizabeth, was born on 21 April 1926 in Mayfair, London, to loving parents King George VI and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. The Queen is the eldest of two daughters - her younger sister is Princess Margaret who was born four years later in 1930. The Queen came to the throne in 1956 after her father passed away. The Queen was not a direct heir to the throne - her uncle abdicated the throne in 1936, and thus the throne was passed to his brother (the Queen's father), King George VI.

The Queen is Celebrating Her 90th Birthday in Style

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will walk from the Henry VIII Gate of Windsor Castle towards the Statue of Queen Victoria. The Statue of Queen Victoria is at the foot of Castle Hill, and it is at this point where Her Majesty The Queen will unveil a commemorative plaque marking The Queen's Walkway.

Later this evening, The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh will be joined by The Prince Of Wales (Prince Charles) and The Duchess of Cornwall (Camilla). The Queen will light a beacon and view two further beacons being lit along Long Walk and at Copper Horse. The Queen will then light the principal beacon which will then set in motion the series one thousand beacons to be lit by local authorities throughout the UK, UK overseas territories and Commonwealth countries.

Also taking place across the UK today and tomorrow are 90th Birthday Celebrations for London borough residents who have been invited to a tea party at Westminster. Local authorities across London are encouraging residents to celebrate the Queen's 90th by hanging out bunting and hosting free street parties. Many celebratory parties are taking place throughout the summer and have already been booked up!
