Bright Goods at London Christmas Market 2016Posted on 19 Dec 00:00 Read more

Our LED filament lights have been featured in a stunning installation at Ealing Broadway's Christmas Market. The Wonderland Collective, a pop up shop curated by Eat Me Drink Me, has been illuminated with LED filament lamps from the Bright Goods range. The shop's exterior is decorated with holly and is shining brightly with our Victoria LED filament lamps. The Victoria is a popular shape from the Bright Goods range, featuring a clear glass cover and lattice LED filament, the lamp uses a mere 6 watts and provides an impressive light output of 100 lumens per watt.

'Wonderland Collective' is spelt out in amber metal lettering paired with Victoria LED filament lamps which create a beautiful, inviting and warm glow to the shop.

Ian Hawes, Director of Light Fixation, who supplied the lamps to the Wonderland Collective stand commented "We chose to use lamps from Bright Goods because they are high quality, come in a variety of stylish designs and have a good range of colour temperatures to choose from. Also, Bright Goods is a UK company, and as the Christmas market supports UK craftspeople, it fits in with the ethos of the event. We used The Victoria lamps in the festoon because the warmth of the light gives the perfect glow for a festive Christmas Market, plus the size and shape of the lamp is far more dramatic and interesting than a frosted golfball, without looking over the top. We have also lit the inside of the chalet with our bespoke light fittings using Bright Goods lamps, which are all for sale."

Inside the pop up shop are 5 unique light fittings designed by Ian Hawes including Bright Goods bulbs in an industrial cross pipe chandelier and dangling from steam punk desk lamps - all of which are available to purchase from Wonderland Collective.

Wonderland Collective, open until Christmas Eve, is selling a wide variety of gifts including Christmas themed tea towels, cushions, postcards, glassware, eco-friendly canvas bags, clocks, paintings and much more.

You can visit the Wonderland Collective shop at Ealing Broadway Centre until 24th December 2016.

Brewing Energy Savings at My From Room CafePosted on 14 Nov 00:00 Read more

My Front Room, Edinburgh's newest coffee house situated on Salisbury Place, opened for business this summer, with the introduction of energy-efficient filament LED lamps from LED Eco Lights' Bright Goods range.

Passionate about coffee, owners Nick Keenan and Lucy Jacobs, started My Front Room last year at their very own kitchen table. The vision was simple, they wanted to create a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere where people could simply enjoy great coffee and tea, combined with excellent customer service. Nick explained that there was a frustration from other coffee houses becoming generic both in decor and customer service and they wanted their coffee shop to have a completely different approach.

Designed by Creative Designer, Keiron Calder, My Front Room's decor has a modern, functional and contemporary feel. The room is furnished with teal, grey and orange chairs complimented by an orange feature wall, decadent to 1960s chic. More importantly, My Front Room is cosy, bright and spacious with a friendly atmosphere. A variety of hot drinks and cakes are offered along with homemade soups and sandwiches.

When it came to choosing lighting for My Front Room, Nick had originally entertained the idea of using Edison style filament bulbs, however due to their inefficiency, lifespan and poor light output, they were decided unsuitable for My Front Room.

Nick trialled 'The George' LED filament globe light bulbs in two colour temperatures, warm (2.7K) and very warm (2.2K). After a successful trial period, the warm colour temperature (2.7K) was preferred as it complemented My Front Room's decor. The LED filament light bulbs are used with a dimmer switch, allowing the lighting to be completely controlled.

Nick was delighted with the aesthetic appearance of the George bulbs, which feature a beautifully unique lattice style LED filament, that he decided to display them bare as show pieces throughout My Front Room. The George LED filament light bulbs are installed throughout the cafe, over the bar, above the seating areas, beside the windows and in a stunning cluster above the sofas.

Commenting on the George, Nick stated "The energy-saving benefits from these bulbs are second to none. They were exactly what we needed - modern efficiency, bright output and a great piece of design. I was very pleased from the array of samples received, to the overall cost, plus the outstanding and continued service received from LED Eco Lights. The George bulbs are exceptional."

Greenwich Mean Time- What does it all mean?Posted on 18 Oct 00:00 Read more

From the sun's rays which greet us in the morning to the comfort light we switch on in the evening, we are surrounded by light wherever we go. As we delve into Autumn 2016 and the evenings are drawing in, in less than two weeks' time on Sunday 30 October, the clocks will go back as we officially get ready for Winter 2016.

When do the clocks go back for Winter 2016?

The clocks will go back by one hour on Sunday 30 October 2016 at 2am. So, 2am on Sunday 30 October now becomes 1am instead. As soon as the clocks go back, we switch to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) which means that although we get an extra one hour in bed and extra light in the mornings, we see less light in the evenings. We call Autumn/Winter 2016 Lighting Season as home owners and businesses switch on lights for longer.

The shortest day of the year falls on 21 December (winter solstice) where the UK will see just 7 hours 40 minutes of sunlight. Compared to the longest day in summer on 22 June (summer solstice) where we saw an impressive 17 hours of sunlight.

    Why do the clocks change?

The original pioneer of moving the clocks to adjust with light levels was British-born New Zealand entomologist and astronomer George Vincent Hudson back in 1895. He was a member of the 1907 Sub-Antarctic Islands Scientific Expedition and spent his leisure time collecting insects which led him to appreciate after-hours daylight. He presented a paper to the Wellington Philosophical Society proposing a two hour daylight saving shift.

William Willett was another Englishman who championed to make use of daylight during summer in 1907. The same year, Willett published a pamphlet 'The Waste of Daylight' in a bid to get people out of their beds earlier during the summer. Willett spent the rest of his life trying to convince people of daylight saving time right up to his death in 1915. Willett championed that the population's happiness and health would be greatly improved by putting the clocks forward in April with the clocks going back in September.

One year after Willett's death, Germany introduced British Summer Time and Britain followed on the 21 May 1916. This successful move was to make better use of the longer daylight hours over the summer.

What does Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) mean?

Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is also referred to as Meridian Time and has been a time standard since 1884. It was chosen because the Prime Meridian, the 0°  line of longitude, runs through Greenwich.

How do I remember the direction the clocks go forward and back?

Remember which direction the clocks change in March and October can be a struggle. However, there is one phrase that is guaranteed to make you remember - 'spring forward, fall back'. The clocks go forward an hour on the last weekend in March and then they go back an hour on the last weekend in October.

Remember to set your clocks to go back by one hour on Sunday 30 October at 2am.
